Cult co-op hit Left 4 Dead 2 was a staple in student apartments, living rooms, and teenage bedrooms across the country after the release of 2009 for a number of years.
This past week has seen much excitement and speculation about the possible unveiling of Left 4 Dead 3. This is mainly due to the YouTube channel, Valve News Network, which claimed to have released leaked screenshots Left 4 Dead 3.
Further evidence for the sequel was apparently given by HTC & # 39; s Chinese president Alvin Wang Graylin & # 39; s presentation at the GoldenV Awards in Beijing. Graylin's slide on "2020 VR trends" discussed, among other things, the impact of 5G and VR work in the coming year.
However, one key point was that "Valve HL Alyx / LFD3 will increase the interest of consumers and AAA studios." As we know, Valve is working on a new one Half time VR title. However, the inclusion of "L4D3" was seen as more proof that a Left 4 Dead sequel was in the making.
Valve says "No"
Unfortunately, in uncertain terms, Valve has told IGN that nothing is on the horizon. Valve said in a statement last week;
"We have seen rumors about this effect in recent months. We have briefly investigated a few Left 4 Dead next-gen opportunities a few years ago. But we are definitely not working on something that has to do with L4D, and we haven't done that for years.
It is clear that some people enjoy creating incorrect information to stimulate the community and other stores. Unfortunately, a new L4D game is not something we are currently working on & # 39 ;.
What a pity.
What does this tell us?
It really looks like couch co-op shooters are dying. AAA FPS games such as Halo and Duty not having a split screen at release is an increasingly famous story.
Playing online is central, perhaps because it is much easier to earn money. Still, I can't help the studios missing a trick. There are still millions of hangover students around in dirty rooms with takeaway meals piled high. I think they play FIFA instead these days.
I can't help but remember the romance of running away from screaming zombie hordes with some friends on a Saturday afternoon.
