Sony is skipping E3 for the second year in a row, the company has confirmed. In a statement to GamesIndustry.biz, the PlayStation company has stated that it does not feel that "the vision of E3 2020" fits in with its own focus this year.
"After a thorough evaluation, SIE (Sony Interactive Entertainment) has decided not to participate in E3 2020," a company spokesperson told GamesIndustry. "We have a lot of respect for the ESA as an organization, but we don't think that the vision of E3 2020 is the right location for what we are focusing on this year."
Instead, Sony participates in "hundreds of consumer events around the world". With the PlayStation 5 launched later this year, Sony is likely to organize its own major press conference, as well as its regular live streams on the state of affairs.
It was a big problem when Sony broke out last year's convention: while publishers such as Activision and Electronic Arts have scaled back their appearance in recent years and chose to skip large presentations in the showroom, the absence of Sony & # 39; s striking press conference – in addition to their first-party offer, there were always trailers and announcements that were relevant to the PC room.
Updating: …. and in case you thought there would be a large console exodus from E3 2020, Microsoft will certainly be present:
Our team is working hard at E3, we look forward to sharing with everyone who likes to play what awaits us. Our art form has been consistently propelled by the cross-section of creativity and technical progress. 2020 is a milestone year in that journey for Team Xbox. # XboxE3 # E32020January 14, 2020
